Helpful Advice
Dear Tina,
Thanks for your message, and I'm happy to hear that you will be traveling to Italy this summer. With one day in Venice, be very selective and leave yourself time to walk/wander the city--it's a living museum! The Basilica of San Marco cannot be missed--be sure to go inside. I would also suggest the Doge's Palace next door--perhaps only look outside rather than a tour inside since you're short on time.
One of my very favorite places in Venice is the major Franciscan church--Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari (or the Frari for short). It contains several major altarpieces by Titian. The other major attraction is the main collection of paintings--the Galleria dell' Accademia (or the Accademia). This is large but well worth the time for masterpieces of Venetian painting by Giorgione, Titian, the Bellini brothers, Tintoretto, etc. Finally, if you find yourself near the church of San Zaccaria, it too is beautiful and holds many fine works including one of my very favorite paintings--Giovanni Bellini's S. Zaccaria Altarpiece.
Buon viaggio!

I am writing because I am actually traveling to europeafter graduation and I was wondering if you had any suggestions aboutplaces to see when visiting venice. I will only have one day there sincemy schedule is kind of rushed, so your opinion about a few of the bestmuseums or exhibits of renaissance art would be appreciated.
Thanks!Tina Lee
